New Paths Short Film

A new short  film encouraging people to apply to the New Paths grant programme has amassed over 4000 views across Facebook. Narrated by Carol Davies who has been a volunteer at the Maindee Library since it reopened. Carol has lived in Maindee for years and has raised grandchildren near the area. As a maindee resident she has seen the area change over the years.

6.30am start… Memory cards formatted, hand warmers packed and batteries all charged. We have to capture this sunrise over Maindee…  Shot by the Street Media team on an early morning in Maindee with a DJI phantom 3.

The video has been captioned by volunteers in Polish, Hindi, Russian and English for the hard of hearing. If you would like to add a translation all you have to do is subscribe to the youtube channel and submit your translations.

Short film narration:

Maindee… Sit back and marvel at its beauty and its defiance.

For over a 100 years the east side of the river has seen generations of people grow up, business’ being built and new homes being developed.

It has become one of the most culturally diverse spaces in Wales and one that has nearly 30 different languages being used today.

Surely a place where this much diversity exists, new ideas and paths are yet to be discovered?

We have a population of almost 7 and half thousand people who  have arrived from all corners of the globe to live and work here, all raising family and building friendships, creating stories and re living old ones and all with hopes and dreams to develop and explore.

It’s these aspects that are helping to shape a resilient and caring place, a place some of us call home.

Chepstow, duckpool, church, corporation all roads with surrounding areas that have many places to eat, worship, and places to sit and just watch the world go by.

Maindee people have built restaurants, barbershops and places to socialise each of which  started small and built upwards from there.

As a wise man once said…Action is the foundational key to all success and that small things can surely be beautiful.

New creative paths are developing here.

A creative fund is available to support kickstarting ideas you have always wanted to try.

Together we can cook, garden or paint walls and maybe make films and go on memorable journeys together and invite others along.

A connected community is a safer one and one that is more enjoyable to live in. The New Paths Creative fund encourages you to connect with your neighbours.

Its a chance for you to add your colour and your ideas to a developing space where projects such as the library have been built.

To apply, all you have to do is go to .maindee.org or drop by the maindee library. 10-5 Wednesday to Friday or Saturday 10-1
