A sublime evening of Old Time Americana
Hannah Read & Michael Starkey
Hannah Read, is a Scot but has been Brooklyn based for some time, the plan being to immerse herself in old timey string band traditions. She wants her fiddle playing to step back from the swirling and swooping virtuosity of her homeland to find a more homespun earthiness. Starkey is a banjo player from Edinburgh with a similar aim; to cut all the excess back, to reveal the pure core of melody intrinsic to a tune. So, kindred spirits.
Llyfrgell Maindee LIbrary has been 100% volunteer run since 2015 and is a huge local success story, hosting all sorts of sessions, events, classes and, yes, book borrowing as well. The accoustics in the library are great for the sublime musicianship of the likes of Hannah and Michael - just the sort of act we like to put on. Bar and nibbles + a warm welcome.
We are greateful to the Arts Council of Wales Night Out Scheme for their support of this event
