Sound is alive in Maindee, can you hear it?

The sounds alive mission is to build an informal and fun gathering of local music makers, creatives and the acoustically inquisitive. To meet, facilitate, support and communicate ideas. To create a varied musical environment for all members of the community.

Rohan and Joe are both professional musicians and alumni from the Creative Sound and Music programme at the University of South Wales. Thanks to New Paths creative fund (which you can also apply for), they have developed a new music project to prove that sound is alive in
Maindee. The two have toured, performed and supported multiple creative projects throughout the area. They have been thoroughly exploring their music practise, whilst further developing their social work practises by working with multiple support providers and charities in developing music programmes. Rohan and Joe have been supported hugely thanks to the musical communities within Newport, which are unique due to the exuberant diversity and nature of its residents.

"We just want there to be no barriers for people to express themselves musically." Rohan

FIRST SESSION: Maindee Library 7th September. FREE. https://www.facebook.com/events/1190815764302027/

The sounds alive mission is to build an informal and fun gathering of local music makers, creatives and the acoustically inquisitive. To meet, facilitate, support and communicate ideas. To create a varied musical environment for all members of the community.

The project is chance for both novices and experienced music makers to explore live sampling and recording. For the uninitiated, sampling is the art form of re-purposing sounds and audio sequences and creating something entirely new from them. The sample can be recorded by any means, for example by phone or it could be a clip from a film.

Our knowledge of traditional instrumentation will also be shared with all attendees, as we will also look at instrument design and creation as part of the project. If you are beginner and need some cost effective tuition then Sounds Alive offer individual sessions.
